“Various Artists always move around according to a certain plan, with carefully and well thought out concepts. Their trajectories could be long or tiny, but they are certainly not wandering around. Walking is not a random and improvisational act for them, but an analytical one; not solitary, but collective. Their performances are statements, fulfilment of a plan, a manifesto. They create new (imaginary) landscapes by walking.”  Lenka Dolanová, 2015

Peripherique is a conceptual work of art by Various Artists that is realized in cities or rural areas. It is part of a larger series called "Nomadic Works". The work questions the legitimacy of land ownership and the political creation of borders. It facilitates thoughts and ideas about territory, space, use and appropriation of land, private vs. public space, etc. The work consists of three parts as a triptych.

Acquisition

A piece of land is obtained, no matter how large or small, in a city or in the countryside. The purchase can be of a legal nature, a donation or continue as a purely symbolic action.

Walking

Various artists invite an infinite number of participants to stroll around the perimeter of the purchased terrain. The action is of indefinite duration. It can take either a few hours or a few weeks. The walk will take place in a pre-arranged direction surrounding the plot at a dizzying rhythm and will be limited to the perimeter of the terrain.

Ownership

By walking the newly created path, the participant claims co-ownership of this property without ever entering it. The ownership is divided proportionally among all participants regardless of the number of circles they complete. The ownership is sealed with a contract (preferably legal but possibly also symbolic).
