The Kunst&Zwalm biennial boasts a long tradition. The biennial art event in Zwalm and its surroundings invites artists to create a work and/or carry out interventions in the landscape and among residents. Kunst&Zwalm takes place over three weekends in August and September.

The next edition is scheduled on weekends 26 and 27 August, 2 and 3 September, and 9 and 10 September.

In 2023, manoeuvre and nadine will take up the curatorship of Kunst&Zwalm. With the central theme of 'water', a current social debate will be included in the creation process of this edition. The 'idyllic' landscape also co-creates: the focus on the artist as an individual and as a human being, is shifted this year to 'about water'.

How can art contribute to an awareness of the reality of a landscape? How can art not highlight the (invisible) reality of a seemingly idyllic landscape?

In Après Vous, Déluge!, Various Artists aim to explore how a flooding of a landscape (1) can affect society through a land art installation (2) and a "group exhibition"(3).

Various Artists, bar(r)egem, 2019.

  1. 2019: Vari0us Artists participated in Kunst&Zwalm with the project Proposition 21, where they presented 21 artistic interventions for the next edition of Kunst&Zwalm (2021) . The public was encouraged to vote for their favourite concept proposed for this future programme. The visitors favourite (4) was resWhale/Moby Dick, a proposition with a budget of € 500,000. As the fee to participate in this year’s edition can not cover the production costs of resWhale/Moby Dick, Various Artists propose to realise the public’s least preferred (5) idea: bar(r)gem, a proposition with a budget of € 16,500,000,000.
