Trudo Engels (°1962, Roeselare, Belgium) worked mainly with installations. Schooled as a sculptor he early left this academic practice focusing on a wider range of techniques and materials.

Engels considered every installation to be part of a larger integral in which process, proper formula and an overall aesthetic were essential. His installations were notable for their scenographic potential and tactile nature. Form serves content, Engels chose mainly logic and minimal solutions. He developed a formal language based on subjective associations and formal parallels, which incited the viewer to make new personal associations.

Trudo Engels died in Dubrovnik in 2009. Various Artists collectively decided to continue his work under the name Wijlen ( The Late) Trudo Engels.
