One of the very first Various used to be named Liam Drib to fit into a palindromic email address at birdmail.com. In 2011 she had a name and gender change due to a "faute de frappe" by the curator of the São Paulo show.
Lima Drib (°Liverpool, United Kingdom) makes installations, sculptures, mixed media artworks.
Drib is using information media by amplifying, and parodying certain facets of them that are characteristic to our present culture.
Most of her works are self referential and use personal experiments to generate input. They question the intimidation that is provoked by the shallow meaning and the superficial aesthetic appearance of her images. Sometimes they appear to be overly personal and bizarre, at other times, they seem typical by-products of Western superabundance and marketing. Initially unambiguous meanings are shattered and disseminated endlessly. By putting the viewer on the wrong track, she often creates several practically identical works, upon which thoughts that have apparently just been developed are manifested: notes are made and then crossed out again, ‘mistakes’ are repeated. Her installations are saturated with obviousness, clichés and often bad jokes.
Lima Drib currently lives and works in London.
