When Mumei (MUM) joined Various Artists on 15 November 2015, her influence on the collective became paramount. Born in Iyo, Japan in 1928, she educated herself as a painter and dedicated her life to researching colour. At the time, she explored how the collective could work as a committee making design and presentation decisions based on the principle of exclusion. This research, called Corporate Culture, 2015-22 (derived from Corporate Colours), she uses mainly as an experimental technique or method to question the artist as a unique, creative personality and see the artist as a "scenius" embedded in a communal environment.

As the art scene in general, and Various Artists' practice in particular, becomes increasingly globally inspired, Mumei's Eastern roots made her a major influence on the group.
