We were invited to perform Albert Saverys (Flemish painter 1886 - 1964) for a retake of the wedding picture of Hugo Claus.
Albert Savereys [Sufferice] (°1964, Petegem, Belgium) is an artist who mainly works with contemporary strategies. With the use of an invented truth which is encapsulated in a day-to-day context, Savereys plays with the idea of the authenticity of an artwork. Which is, by being restricted in time, much more intense.
His imaginary paintings investigate the circumstances of emergence of an idea in the context of the present time where images, representations and ideas normally function.
By studying signification and communication, as well as references to texts and paintings, photographic copies of existing or non existing paintings are juxtaposed with hermetic writings derived from his twitter account. Categories are subtly reversed.
His works are made through arbitraryprinciples which can berecognised within restraint borders. Values such as ‘inspiration’, ‘genius’ and ‘authenticity’ are thereby neutralised and put into perspective. Albert Savereys currently lives and works in Kortrijk, Belgium.
